$25 Off | "Despondent" - Charcoal Drawing

from $450.00

“Despondent”, Charcoal on Strathmore bristol, 17” x 21.875”, Ethan Jordan, 2020

Sale ends Dec. 31.

Comes in a used frame unless you upgrade to a new, museum-quality frame.

Artwork explanation:

Ethan’s goal with this piece, which was created during his first year of art school, was simply to play around with charcoal as a medium. He had never created a serious piece using charcoal before and wanted to test its capabilities and limitations. This piece was also Ethan’s first foray into hyper-realism, a style he tends to slip into when he’s not careful. Though the source imagery originates from a royalty-free stock photograph, the work functions as an exploration of charcoal’s expressive potential, emphasizing execution, restraint, and technical precision. Ethan incorporated his own personal touch by overlaying a subtle cloudiness that he feels adds to the story being told by the man’s posture and gaze.
